The artist beyond the stage

Your career may be changing.
The artist in you is not gone.

Adria Firestone helps singers, actors, musicians, and other performing artists navigate career transition,
burnout, aging, identity loss and the deeply personal question: What comes next?

This goes beyond help: it's been a complete awakening.”
J. Belgard, Performer, Singapore

WHEN THE APPLAUSE STOPS

For a performing artist, stepping away is not simply changing jobs. Performance becomes woven into your identity—your voice, your body, your community, your purpose and the way the world sees you.

When a career slows, changes or ends, the question is rarely only, “What will I do now?”

The deeper question is:

“Who am I if I am no longer performing?”

This is not weakness. It is grief, identity transition and the beginning of reinvention.

After a forty-year international performing career, Adria Firestone understands this passage from the inside. She helps artists honor what was, reclaim what remains, reignite a stagnant career and create a meaningful life beyond the stage.

You are not losing the artist you are. You are discovering where the artist goes next.

THE SINGER’S ADDICTION

Why can leaving the stage feel like losing yourself?

Performance offers far more than applause. It provides identity, intensity, discipline, community, purpose and the extraordinary experience of communicating something only you can express.

When performing ends, the body and spirit do not simply switch those needs off. An artist may know intellectually that it is time to change—and still feel grief, fear, longing and profound disorientation.

Adria explored this experience in her six-part Classical Singer series, The Singer’s Addiction. The articles address retirement, aging, career transition, forgiveness and the search for a new source of meaning beyond performance.

This is just what I asked to find: wisdom for the decision to make this season my last...
Retiring from my teaching job was a breeze. Retiring from singing will not be.
---Suzanne, singer and educator

You don't need to erase the performer you were.  The challenge is to integrate that artist
into the person you're becoming.

IS THIS WHERE YOU ARE?

You know your performing chapter is changing but cannot imagine who you are without it
You feel your voice, body, opportunities or relationship with the profession changing
You are considering retirement but feel frightened, guilty or unprepared?
You miss the intensity, discipline and community of performance?
You feel stalled, rejected, burned out or invisible
You want to move into teaching, directing, speaking, writing or another career
You have valuable artistic gifts but do not yet know where those gifts belong
You 're ready for a new chapter without abandoning the artist you have always been

You do not need to have the next chapter figured out.
You only need to know that the old one no longer fits.

HOW ADRIA HELPS

This is not about erasing your past or forcing yourself into a new identity. It's about carrying the artist and everything you learned into a life that fits who you are now.

HONOR WHAT WAS

Make room for the grief, disappointment,
anger and longing that can accompany
the end of a performing chapter.

RECLAIM WHAT REMAINS

Separate your identity from a role,
title or career—and reconnect with the voice,
values and creative spirit that are still yours.

TRANSLATE YOUR GIFTS

Recognize how your discipline,
presence, courage, storytelling, resilience, and ability to connect can serve you beyond performance.

DESIGN WHAT COMES NEXT

Turn insight into practical choices,
meaningful experiments and a
clear, sustainable path forward.

Your experience is not a closed chapter.
It's the raw material for what
comes next.

WHY WORK WITH ADRIA?

Because she's lived it.

Adria Firestone built a forty-year international career as an award-winning opera singer and musical-theatre performer. Performance was not simply what she did. It was her identity, her community, her discipline and her way of communicating with the world.

When Adria chose to step away from performing, she faced the same questions her clients face now:

Who am I now?
What is still mine?
Where does the artist go next?

Adria discovered that the artist does not disappear. The artist changes form.

For 23 years, she brought her professional experience into the university classroom, helping performers develop their voices, face fear, build confidence and create sustainable lives in the arts.

Her six-part Classical Singer series, The Singer’s Addiction, explores the emotional reality of leaving performance long before career transition became a fashionable coaching subject.

THE COACHING EXPERIENCE

This is not generic career coaching. It is a private, compassionate and practical process designed around the particular emotional and professional realities of performing artists.

1. TELL THE TRUTH

Name what is changing, what has been   lost and what you are afraid to admit. You do   not    have to minimize the grief or pretend   you already know what comes next

2. RECLAIM THE ARTIST

Separate who you are from the roles, titles and opportunities that once defined you. Rediscover the gifts, values, voice and creative intelligence that remain.

3. DESIGN THE NEXT CHAPTER

Translate your experience into new possibilities. Choose practical next steps and begin creating a life that uses—not abandons—everything you have become.

Every coaching process is personal. Some artists need one focused clarity session.
Others benefit from a three-session transition intensive or longer private mentorship.

You will leave with greater clarity, renewed self-trust and a direction you can begin acting on.

THREE WAYS TO WORK WITH ADRIA

Private coaching is available virtually to performing artists worldwide.

TRANSITION CLARITY SESSION

One private 90-minute session — $350

This is a focused, strategic session designed to help you understand what is truly changing, separate fear from truth, and identify the next step that is actually right for you.

Together, we will explore:.

What is ending—and what is not
The identity beneath the role or career
The question you may not yet know how to ask.
The gifts and experience you are carrying forward.
The clearest next steps available now.

You will leave with greater emotional clarity, practical direction, and a written summary of the key insights and next steps from our conversation.

THE ARTIST BEYOND THE STAGE INTENSIVE

Three private coaching sessions

A focused process for performing artists who know a chapter is ending—or has already ended—and need more than a single conversation to understand who they are becoming.

This intensive gives you the space to work through the emotional and practical layers of transition: identity, grief, confidence, transferable gifts, new possibilities, and the fear of beginning again.

Across three sessions, we will:

Make sense of what is ending and why it matters
Separate your identity from the role, title, or career you have held
Uncover the strengths, experience, and gifts that remain fully yours
Explore realistic and meaningful possibilities for what comes next
Create a personalized transition map with clear next steps

You will leave with a deeper understanding of your transition, renewed confidence in what you still have to offer, and a practical direction you can begin acting on immediately. Best for: artists navigating retirement, career change, burnout, loss of identity, an unexpected ending, or the desire to create a new expression of their work.

Because this work is highly individualized, scope and pricing are determined after a complimentary conversation.

PRIVATE REINVENTION MENTORSHIP

Extended 1:1 support

For the artist navigating a profound career or life transition who wants consistent guidance, accountability, and a trusted, experienced partner by their side.

This mentorship is designed around you: your history, identity, gifts, circumstances, and emerging vision. Depending on your needs, we may work together for 90 days or six months.

Together, we can address:

The loss of an old identity or role
The fear and uncertainty of beginning again
The development of a new career, business, or creative direction
Confidence, visibility, voice, and decision-making
The practical steps required to bring the next chapter into form

This is not a preset program. It is a highly personal process for someone ready to do meaningful work and create a fully reinvented life. Best for: artists who want sustained support through a major transition and are ready to move from reflection into committed action.

Because every transition is different, Adria does not use a one-size-fits-all approach for longer-term coaching. A complimentary 20-minute conversation allows you both to determine what level of support is most useful before choosing your next step.
